If you are planning on redesigning your website here is a quick tip that will save you time and money.

Define Your Goals – What is the purpose for redesigning your website? Is it to improve the look or would you like to make it more interactive or would you like to get more search engine traffic or increase your website conversion rate (the number of website visitors that turn into leads) or all of the above? Each one of these goals requires a different approach.

  • Improve Your Website Look.

If you are looking to simply improve the look, then all you really need is an idea of what type of design you would like, perhaps you have come across some sample sites that you like, if not that would be a great place to start. In addition, you would want to compile a list of competitor websites to see what they are doing and develop a strategy for setting your company apart from theirs.

  • Make Your Website More Interactive.

If you are looking to make your website more interactive, you may want to add videos, and social media such as a Facebook page, or Twitter Feed, or a You Tube Channel, or add a blog, which increases the cost from  just getting a better design to making the site more interactive. So defining your goals for your website will help you implement a full strategy that will enable you to achieve them.

  • Get More Search Engine Traffic.

Increasing your website traffic will require you determining what tactics you would like to use to do so, for example, would you use, Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click, Banner Ads, Directory Listings, Classified Sites, Affiliate Sites. Again, identifying the tactic that you will use requires different and varied approach.  For example if you were interested in utilizing search engine optimization as a tactic for driving traffic, it would require keyword research to find the best keywords, then your website pages will have to be optimized properly, and then you may decide to add a blog to help you build links or add more pages to provide more relevant content to search engines.

  • Increase Website Conversion Rate.

If your goal is to increase your website conversion rate (the number of visitors that actually becomes leads) then you need more than just a pretty design. You need to make sure that you position yourself to connect with the needs of your target customers; your marketing message has to be a key component in addition to making sure that you include call to actions and lead generation tactics on each page of your website.

Ultimately your goals will determine your overall strategy and your cost, because you may want to accomplish all of the above or just one or two. If you are not sure, it will be a great idea to consult with an experienced website redesign company to determine what the best approach for you will be.
